1934 J. G. Flannigan v. Perry Headrick, Jr. Blount Damages J. G. Flannigan was walking west from Maryville on Friendsville Pike when a dog approached and attacked him. While defending himself, he lost balance and stumbled into the roadway. At the same time Perry Headrick, Jr. struck Flannigan with his car. Flannigan sues for $5000 in damages. Flannigan was a weaver who caned chair bottoms and made baskets. Headrick was the county road commissioner. Testimonies conflict. East Range: 10

1933 Nathan Sparks v. State Blount Motion for a New Trial During prohibition of alcohol in the United States, Sparks was found guilty of posessing intoxicating alcohol in the form of multiple crocks of whiskey. Sparks insisted this was not his whiskey. His defense argues that the justice of the peace did not have probable cause when issuing the search warrant, and therefore a new trial is necessary. 1933 Mrs. Mary Lunsford v. The Junior Order of United American Mechanics, Unity Council No. 13,& Pauline Phillips Blount Wills, Contested Lunsford was the sister of Gordon Phillips who died of tuberculosis in 1930. Pauline Phillips was his wife who had deserted him 2 years prior. Before he died, Gordon made a last will bequeathing all of his property to Pla. As well as insurance or death benefits from The Junior Order. Plaintiff suing for $500 in death benefits and a decree that Pauline was not entitled to the same. 1933 Herman Reynolds v. State Blount Violation of Age of Consent Herman Reynolds is accused of having sexual relations with Willie Ammon Haun, aged 18 at the time of the incidents. However, the two were married nine months before the incident. Haun became pregnant, and though initially living with Reynolds and his mother, she moved back in with her father. Reynolds does not acknowledge the child through effort or payment. Oddly this case is not about bastardy, but age of consent violation. East Range: 10

They had purchased and worked farm together, but were unable to produce enough to make it sustainable. They took out a mortgage. Elizabeth obtained multiple jobs to pay the bill. 1933 Boyce Bailey v. Grace Bailey Blount Divorce Grace charged her husband with being almost continuously "drunk and carousing" since their marriage eighteen years ago. She suffered much anxiety, worry, and trouble during that time. Grace testified that Boyce sometimes had been violent; further, he "often had assaulted her and wickedly abused her." He often "flew into a rage and unmercifully beat her" after she corrected their two children (June and Jean) for a minor infraction. It also was sworn that Boyce kept company with lewd women. 1932 T. A. Caldwell, et al. v. England, Walton & Company Blount Public Nuisance Add. material in ET 90. Add. plaintiffs listed in file. Plaintiffs are the riparian owners of lands located on Little River in Blount County, which are the means of their livelihood. The defendant runs a tannery on the same river and has been charged with polluting the river with tannic acid and lime, poisoning the river and the owned land downstream. Plaintiffs suffered losses in crops and cattle. Filed to prevent def. from draining chemicals in the river and damages for the nuisance. East Range: 10

1932 Newton Koontz, admr. v. C. V. Fleming Blount Damages for Wrongful Death Koontz was the administrator of the late James Koontz, killed by an automobile driven by Fleming. Koontz had been riding in a mail truck when he and the post carrier stopped to give assistance to a wrecked driver. Fleming, said to be driving recklessly, fatally injured Koontz, who was survived by wife Tobitha and children Daisy Kiser, Lucy Phillips, Birt Koontz, Elmer Koontz, Lamer Koontz, and plaintiff Newton Koontz. 1931 William Gourley v. N. W. Lakey Blount Personal Injuries Def. is the owner and operator of a small grist (corn mill) located in the 7th Civil District of Blount County. Said mill is powered by a Fordson Tractor. Pla. claims he was instructed by the Def. to crank the tractor in order to place the motor in operation. 1931 Peoples Telephone & Telegraph Company, in error v. Commie Frye, admr., in error Blount Damages Commie Frye, Administrator of P. E. Frye, deceased sued the Peoples Telephone & Telepgraph Company and Tennessee Electric Company on account of damages in the death of P. E. Frye. P. E. 1931 Jess Kirkland, in error v. State, in error Blount Liquor, Sale of Illegal Jess Kirkland was charged with unlawfully selling intoxicating liquors. Deputy Sheriff, S. R. Kinnamon, testified that he knocked on the door of a Mrs. Winters asking to purchase whiskey and she said that Jess Kirkland had some whiskey to sell. 1931 James Strickland, J. W. Strickland & Arthur Cable v. Knoxville News Sentinel Blount Debt The Knoxville News Sentinel sued defendants for $23.10 debt. Both James Strickland and Arthur Cable were dismissed. James was a minor and courier for plaintiff; J.W. was his father. Court ruled in favor of plaintiff for debt. Strickland appealed. 1931 Hugh Trotter v. State Blount Assault Hugh Trotter was charged with committing felonious assault on Minnis Perkins with the intent to commit murder by shooting him. According to Perkins' testimony they had spent some time at Trotter's house drinking and gambling. 1931 Aaron Myers, et al., In Error v. Elizabeth Anthony, et al., In Error Blount Damages Elizabeth Anthony sued Aaron Myers, Frank & Ed Gillespie for damages in the sum of $20,000 for the death of her husband Robert. The Anthony's lived near Peery's Mill on State Highway 73. Robert was trying to get a truck unstuck from the side of the road when Myers & his friends struck him with their car.
