1891 Bank of Adairville & Buck & Morrow v. Hancock Hallums & Co. et al. Montgomery Debt Additional defendant: W. J. Ely Assignee of Hancock Hallums and Co. Buck and Morrow were indebted to Hancock Hallums and Co. in the sum of $6339 which was secured by a mortgage. Buck and Morrow also drew a draft for Hancock and Hallums for four payments totaling $3,000. This draft eventually became the property of the Bank of Adairville. In 1890 Hancock and Hallums became insolvent. Buck and Morrow now claim they are entitled to a credit on their debt. Middle Range: 35

1890 John Gilmore v. State Montgomery Murder Pla. in error is accused of shooting and killing Abe Clardy. Gilmore and the victim were members of the same church and were on opposites sides of a debate regarding the employment of their current church pastor, Ephraim Dennis. The debate stemmed from a suit won by the church involving the title to the church property. The church sustained debt from said suit, and some in the church leadership wished to, "turn the pastor off," until debts were paid. This appears to have been an African American church. 1890 J. G. Pickering v. Rev. Henry Japes Montgomery Nuisance Plaintiff is the owner of a lot and has the right to use a certain entrance through his gate. In 1888, the defendant erected a gate fence and certain obstructions across the private entrance to the plaintiff's land. 1890 B. W. Ussery v. P. H. Keesee et al Montgomery Debt Add. Defendants: A. E. Keesee & W. W. McMurry. The parties were engaged in the business of buying and stripping tobacco for resale under the firm name of P. H. Keesee & Company. The business proved to be a great loss and the partners settled in court in a case that gave the plaintiff $2,492.41 for his share of the business. 1889 The Peoples Bank v. The Franklin Bank Montgomery Bank Note A check was drawn by an unnamed party from the Peoples Bank for $260 payable to T.M. Morgan and signed by J.R. Young, the depositor of the plaintiff. Though check as suspicious, since it as endorsed by the defendant, the plaintiff paid the amount. It was later discovered to be a forgery. Plaintiff demanded the defendant to return the money, which they had failed and refused to do. Plaintiff suing for said $260. Middle Range: 35

1889 T. J. Munford v. W. T. Dortch et al. Montgomery Debt Additional defendants: A. C. Hewitt the regular guardian of W. H. Dortch, and A. R. Gholson. Plaintiff and W. T. 1889 Clarksville National Bank for use of A. R. Hudson v. W. T. Dortch, et al. Montgomery Debt Additional defendants: H.C. Mentill, guardian for W.H. Dortch, minor. Bank had received two judgments against W.T. Dortch previously for debt. This case discusses life insurance policy obtained by W.P. Hume with the Connecticut Mutual Insurance Co. His children became owners of policy. One of whom, Lena Hume, married W.T. Dortch who gifted the 1/3 interest in insurance policy to his son, W.H. Dortch, minor. 1889 Ambrose Talliaferro v. Robert Bigbee et al Montgomery Land, Sale of Add. defendants: D. B. Smith, W. D. Meriweather, R. Lester, & John Lockert. In 1884, the parties entered into a contract for the purchase of a tract of land for $2,200. The plaintiff paid in cash $933 and executed notes to pay the balance over two years. The defendant convinced the plaintiff to give him one of the notes for $300 early and in return he would execute a note of sale for another part of the land and give credit for the funds towards his balance, but he failed to produce the deed. In the process of compiling two cars, his arm was caught in-between and smashed badly enough it had to be amputated.
